Davlat Khudonazarov (born March 13, 1944, in Khorugh, Tajikistan) is a Tajik filmmaker, public figure, and human-rights activist associated with Soviet and Central Asian cinema. He began his career working as a cameraman at the Tajikfilm studio and later directed several films and documentaries exploring culture and society in Central Asia.


Beyond filmmaking, Khudonazarov became an important political figure during the late Soviet period: he was elected a People’s Deputy to the Soviet parliament in 1988 and later served as chairman of the USSR Union of Cinematographers. He also played a role as a mediator during political unrest in Tajikistan and was active in peace and human-rights initiatives during the Tajik Civil War.
